Dakar Fashion Week 2011

Wanted to put some light on a different fashion week that we normally know very little about. Last week 6-10 july Dakar Fashion Week was showcasing Ivorian fashion design such as Adama Paris, Alain Niava, Beatrice Bee Arthur among others. After months of post-election conflict ground their country to a halt, Ivorian designers hit the catwalk in Senegal with a burst of colour and a determination to move on.Two designers will showcase their creations at the ninth Dakar Fashion week which kicks off Wednesday night 6 july at Radisson SAS Hotel in Dakar, among styles from Senegal, Morocco, Mali, Ghana, the United States and France.

I think it is very interesting showing you this Senegal Fashion Week from Dakar.
They have other inspirations and other culture and traditions that color their styles.
Ankara fabrics, bold exotic prints, pop colors with modern silhouettes and shapes all mixed together to a contemporary feeling.

One of the greatest Senegal designers is Adama-Paris. Born in Kinshasa (ex Zaïre), but of Senegalese origin, Adama epitomizes the multicultural fashion designer of the new millenium. With parents belonging to the diplomatic corps, she grew up in different world capitals. Exposed to cosmopolitan fashions, she began to forge her own style from the very beginning.
Even though she makes her home in Paris, she travels frequently between the french capital, New York, Brazil and Senegal.
