Roma My Love

Would like to share with you inspirational places, art, exploring and dining. Here is my list I made for Rome during my trip in May 2011.

I lived in Rome for 1 and a half year in the beginning of my fashion carrer in 2001 and ever since I have a big heart and much love for this Roma-ntic city. It is one of my favorite places to visit. The beauty of this city is really breathtaking and goes straight into your heart.

It is a city full of warmth, hospitality and love. I always have a great time visiting this city. This is where you fall in love with everything around you. The small cozy streets, the beautiful historical architecture that sweaps over the city and this great history that belongs to this city from the Roman Empire to the great days of Cinema Italiana in Cinecittá with Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni and the importance of Alta Moda Italiana that colors this city.

I have stated 10 things not to miss

1. Tamara de Lempicka Exhibition at Vittoriano Museum Complex

A highly inspiering exhibition. Fantastic shapes, colors that yet today feels very modern though Tamara de Lempicka had her greatest era in the 20/30´s.

2. Eleonora Boutique Roma, Via del Babuino 97

This is a great concept store for fashion and design where you find a very interested selection of interesting styles and special editions of the season. Their department for Shoes & Accessories is specially worth a visit. This is Romes “Colette Paris” .

3. Ristorante Sora Lella – Isola Tiberina, 16, via di Ponte 4 Capi

My favorite Restaurnt that serves Classic Roman dishes.

I first visited their restaurant when I lived in New York where they had their second Restaurant Sora Lella New York and got to know this fantastic family runed spot. It is a restaurant that has a long tradition of Roman cooking and opened 1959 by Signora Elena Fabrizi (Sora Lella in Roman). Today Sora Lella Restaurant is runed by Elenas grandchildren that continues the Sora Lella Story.

To know is that Elena and her brother Aldo where very important actors in Italian Cinema. Aldo opened up the Italian Neorealismo movie era with Rome Open City 1945 directed by Roberto Rosselini. Aldo also helped Federico Fellini into the moviemaking before he was a known movie director.

4. Le Talpe – Design/Vintage store. Via Panisperna, 222a

This is a newly opened store in the Monti Area that is a goldmine for Vintage  designer sunglasses. They also holds new designer brands and the Staff is Fantastic!! If you are a lover of Sunglasses this is a must go!!

5. Smalto -Shoes & Wine Via Urbana 12,

Shoes store in Monti District that is a perfect new hybrid—shoe boutique and bar. This is where you can enjoy a glass of wine while trying on your favorite shoes on. This store holds many made in Italy brands like Georgina Goodman and Tabitha Simmonds among others.

6. Rosario Ristorante (Seaside Fregene) Lungomare di Levante 54, Fregene Roma

This Lovely Seaside Restaurant outside of Rome (by the beach in Fregene) is a fantastic romantic spot. They are specialized in Fish & Seafood. This is the place for Oysters and Champagne lovers!! Their location just by the beach with seaview is priceless.

7. Fontana di Trevi is a must for me everytime I come to Rome. I love that place, the beautiful architecture and the sound of the ebullient water. This fantastic place is best visited late night or early morning or out of season when less crowds of tourists.

8. Gallery Dorothy Circus Via dei Pettinari 76

This Gallery holds Pop Surrealism art only with artists like Mark Ryden, Tara McPherson and Natalie Shau. It is absolutely worth a visit. Right now they have the exhibition “The Magic Caravan”

9. Enoteca Cul de Sac Piazza Pasquino 73

I always go here when in Rome. Also when I lived here years ago this was a favorite spot of mine. Their wine selection is exquisite and also their broad selection of italian cheese and salumi is a must when here. The place is always full and you most likely needs to wait a while, but it is definitly worth waiting for.

10. Exhibition Gli Irrepitibili Anni´60

Fondazione Roma Museo Palazzo Cipolla Via del Corso 320

This exhibition of art from the 60´s is a great inspiration where you can see pieces by Yves KleinMario Schifano and Piero Manzoni among others. This exhibition holds Italian Nouveau Réalisme and Pop Art and also they have a movie section and magazines from the 60´s. It is definitly a must if you will visit Rome until 31 July.

11. Osteria Gusto Roma Via della Frezza, 16 vicolo del corea

A very exciting location. A feel of industrial, modern art and trattoria. Their plates are fantastic. Salumi and Cheese is a must here together with a glass of Prosecco. The place is relaxing and music is lounge modern relaxing vibe and they also have a spacious outdoor area for fresh summer nights.

Invitro

Heidi Mount: Invitro

The Model Gets Caught in the Headlights in Santiago and Mauricio Sierra’s High Fashion Short

Heidi Mount makes a play for best-dressed damsel in distress in neo-noir film Invitro, the latest from sibling directors Santiago and Mauricio Sierra. Inhabiting the role of a mannequin held captive behind a store window, the model wears a series of intricate Chinoiserie-inspired ensembles selected by stylist Patrick Mackie from Louis Vuitton’s spring collection. Otherworldly hair by Ashley Javier and an exaggerated visage by make-up artist Benjamin Puckey act as an aesthetic portal to David Lynch territory, where the dream of fashion conflates with a feverish unreality. “We wanted to create a scenario in which we could analyze the colors, textures and mood of the collection,” explains Mexico City native Santiago Sierra, who has worked with the likes of Inez and Vinoodh and Mert & Marcus. “It’s about desirability and unattainability,” adds Mackie, referencing the fragile glass divide that keeps the luxe fantasy just out of reach.

Curvy Inspirations

I feel for posting up some inspiration today about curvy women who inspires.

To me it has always been important to stand up for who I am and try to inspire others by being true to myself. I believe women needs more than ever good rolemodels and women that can inspire and bring out the best in us. Women are all different and there is as many bodytypes as women on this earth.

We need to start inspire eachother rather than putting negative energy out there. Just try to find out what is the best about you and focus on that. Never focus on the negative parts. We can all feel gorgeous everyday if we focus on bringing out the best in us.

Camilla Hansen curvy model- Vogue Italia

It is often discussions regarding Christina Hendricks – Joan in Mad Men series. That she is too much and has too much clevedge etc.. Her curves is just such a gift and hardly never we see such women that rather show what they are gifted with than hide it. We should be all inspired. Bring it out ladies!! Get Inspired!!

And we also have the lovely and extremly gifted Adele. She has a voice that just goes straight into your heart.

She is simply amazing. Her talent goes far beyond all sizes and she is an amazing inspiration and has such an amazing style. She is very aware of her body and knows what she can wear and not. Being bigger you need to be very aware of what brings out the best in you. She has a great style!!

Her video `Rolling in the Deep`is amazing. Watch it here

Rolling in the Deep Lyrics

There’s a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bringing me out the dark,

Finally, I can see you crystal clear,
Go ahead and sell me out and a I’ll lay your ship here,
See how I’ll leave with every piece of you,
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do,

There’s a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bring me out the dark,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
I can’t help feeling,

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart and said in your head,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Baby, I have no story to be told,
But I’ve heard one on you and I’m gonna make your head burn,
Think of me in the depths of your despair,
Make a home down there as mine sure won’t be shared,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
I can’t help feeling,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart and said in your head,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),

And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart and said in your head,
But you played it with a beating,

Throw your soul through every open door,
Count your blessings to find what you look for,
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold,
You’ll pay me back in kind and reap just what you’ve sown,

(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
We could have had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
It all, it all, it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart and said in your head,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),

But you played it,
You played it,
You played it,
You played it to the beat.

Stefano Canulli illustrations

Stefano Canulli was born in Rome. After his studies at the Accademia delle Belle Arti and at the Accademia di Costume e di Moda, he attended several courses of photography and advertising.

When he was only 19 he worked as wardrobe assitant for many italian films and some important TV shows as well.

One year later he worked with Lancetti for haute couture collections. In the meanwhile he became official illustrator for Roberto Capucci’s fashion house.

As an illustrator and designer he became attached to Valentino, Chiara Boni and Cartier and he created for them important advertising campaigns.

The magazine Vanity owes some of the most beautiful cover to him. After moving to Paris, he started collaborating for several years with Maison Mugler.

His artworks were exhibited in range of an exposition about the “Made in Italy”at the Museum of Modern Art of New York . At the moment Stefano Canulli lives in Los Angels and he is the artistic director of the new show of Le Cirque du Soleil.

In 2003, Stefano worked with Thierry Mugler to design costumes for the Cirque du Soleil show ZUMANITY, and in 2006 he made drawings for Philippe Guillotel’s costumes for The Beatles LOVE. Viva ELVIS is his first Cirque show as Costume Designer.

“At Cirque du Soleil, the movement, wear and comfort of the artist are the main constraints,” he says. “It’s a fascinating world. These technical limitations have profoundly changed the way I work.”

The style and approach of Stefano Canulli, for whom “drawing is the basis of everything,” are easily recognized in his designs for Viva ELVIS. “The costumes I’ve created for this show are a fantasy revolving around the 1950s, inspired by the image of Elvis. But the end result has nothing to do with a retro aesthetic,” he says. “Taking my usual classic and graphic approach, I flirted with the look of the Elvis era while bringing a contemporary touch to it.”

Sophia Loren my great inspiration!

Since I will travel to Rome end of this week I decided to dedicate a post to one of my greatest inspirations Sophia Loren.

Sophia is to me more than an icon, she is something more inspiering and more emotional. Her image and persona puts such a godess inpact that makes me as a woman feel great and positive.

Cardinal Bertone once commented about cloning her. Dignified, charming and perceptive, with perfect comic timing, she is quite simply an international treasure.

She once said ´Sex appeal is 50 per cent what you’re got and 50 per cent what people think you’re got.´

As a statuesque teenager, she entered a beauty contest, came second, and encountered Carlo Ponti – 23 years her senior – a film producer who would become her mentor and the love of her life until his death. Older, shorter and altogether less alluring than his wife, he recognised her talent and masterminded a career that moved, almost seamlessly, from walk-on parts in low-budget Italian films to starring roles in Hollywood blockbusters alongside actors such as Frank Sinatra, Charlton Heston and Marcello Mastroianni, in movies such as The Pride and the Passion, El Cid and Marriage Italian Style.

Sophia believes she was lucky to have experienced such a strong and lasting love. ‘When you fall in love with someone, you love everything about them, even their faults. You say, “He is so lovely. My God, you should see him eat, he eats like a pig – I love it.” But when you start not liking those faults the love is over. With Carlo I loved everything. Nothing about him irritated me whatsoever,’ she smiles.

She has always followed her heart and enjoyed life her way. Her curves is nothing she has never denied and always used as a gift. The roles she played in the movies was never only about her beauty, she took challanges and entered the life of the carachters with such great emotions, passion and not least her humor. I specially loves her De Sica movies and Ieri Oggi Domani is one of my top movies ever.

No need for over the top scenography, special effects and extraordinary costumes. It is just simple at it´s best. Stories about peoples lives.

Sophia ia a true icon!!

By the way anyone know if the apartment in the clip below is availeble?
